Russell Hoult is keen to continue playing League Two football for as long as possible as he prepares to battle it out with Kevin Pilkington for Notts County's number one jersey.

The 36-year-old former Derby and West Brom goalkeeper missed the final five months of last season with a shoulder injury. But he is determined to see off the challenge of Pilkington and be in the starting line up for County's opening League Two fixture against Bradford on 8 August.

Hoult told County's official website, "It will be a good battle, although in the year I've had here we've rarely had the chance to compete for the first-team spot because one of us has been injured."

He added: "I don't see this as my last season in football, not at all. To be honest I've not even thought about it."
