It’s been another week where football fans have been left dumbfounded by Cristiano Ronaldo’s excellence.

The Real Madrid superstar netted a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid to put his side on the brink of a third Champions League final in four seasons.

It came after he scored three in Real’s 4-2 win over Bayern Munich last month. Ronaldo’s goalscoring record is out of this world - and this is a player who is transitioning into a No. 9.

There is some debate over whether Ronaldo’s third goal against Atletico was his 400th for his club, but Real were keen to quash the dispute by presenting the 32-year-old with a special commemorative shirt on Wednesday.

In an interview with Dugout, the Portuguese hero said it was “special” to reach the milestone.

"It's very special,” Ronaldo said. “The truth is that amount of goals is really big, something I didn't expect but it is a reflection of the whole team, of my work as well of all the people who work at the club, the fans that always support us and give us this extra motivation.

"We play for the shirt, I feel really happy. I want to give my all to the club with the time left on my contract with Real Madrid, I will try to do my best, score goals and work to ensure that Real Madrid wins titles.”

Muller: Ronaldo is extraordinary

Real are hoping to become the first team to win the Champions League in back-to-back seasons. They’re favourites to do it, too, given the healthy advantage they will take to the Vicente Calderon next week.

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller was helpless to prevent Ronaldo knocking the Bavarians out at the quarter-final stage.

On Wednesday, Muller hailed the four-time Ballon d’Or winner as a “phenomenon”.

“Basically we all know that he is extraordinary, in his appearance and with his sporting performances. So he's already a phenomenon," Muller said, via Goal.

"You cannot achieve such numbers of goals for so many years and so often without having to work hard.

"He has enormous physical and technical qualities, of course.”

Muller explains Ronaldo's best quality

And what impresses Muller the most about Ronaldo? His ability in the air, something the German believes is often overlooked.

"But what impresses me the most are his heading skills,” Muller added. “This is sometimes forgotten a bit. He has a fine technique, but he also has mad heading skills.

"And if you look at him or Lionel Messi, the two are on a level above all others."
