St Johnstone have not been approached by West Brom about the availability of manager Derek McInnes and chairman Geoff Brown does not believe he is ready for the job.

The former Baggies captain is one of the frontrunners to replace Tony Mowbray in B71 with Albion chief Jeremy Peace expected to step up his search within the next few days.

"There have no approaches from West Brom and I don't believe there will be," said the Saints chairman in the Express and Star. "I think that job would be too early for Derek, because he has only been here since a year past in November."

He continued: "He has done very well for St Johnstone, but I don't think he has been tested to the limits yet. The board at West Brom will want automatic promotion from the Championship next season and that is some test.

"I don't believe it is the right time for Derek to move."

McInnes led Saints into the Scottish Premier League back in May in what was his first full season in management.
