In order to keep their title hopes alive, it was imperative for Tottenham to beat West Ham at the London Stadium on Friday night.Mauricio Pochettino’s side went into the match four points behind league-leaders Chelsea, who go head-to-head against Middlesbrough on Monday evening. But despite dominating possession at the old Olympic Stadium, Spurs suffered a gut-wrenching 1-0 defeat following Manuel Lanzini’s second-half winner."It is not over,” Pochettino said of the title race, per BBC Sport, after the match. “We have to wait but are thinking that it will be difficult to catch Chelsea."I feel calm. But I'm disappointed, of course, that we missed the opportunity to reduce the gap."

Pochettino: It's hard to find the positives

Pochettino also admitted Chelsea will move a significant step closer to winning the title with a victory over Boro at the start of next week.

"Seven points will be difficult with three games to play, but in football have to try your best. It is true it will be difficult," the Argentine coach added.

"When you have the chance to reduce the gap to one point and you lose it's hard to find the positives."

What West Ham fans did after the match

As this was a London derby, it’s no surprise that West Ham fans revelled in their Tottenham counterparts’ agony after the match.

A video of West Ham fans chanting “We’re all going to party, when Tottenham f****d it up” outside their home stadium has gone viral overnight.

West Ham fans slaughtered on Twitter

However, the Hammers’ supporters involved are being slaughtered on Twitter for their ‘small-time mentality’ amongst other things.

Spurs can be proud of their season whatever happens

It’s worth noting that despite last night’s result, Tottenham are still a huge 34 points above ninth-placed West Ham in the table.

Even if Spurs fail to win the title, there’s no doubt it’s been another excellent season for Pochettino’s side.

And it would come as no surprise if this exciting Tottenham team finally end their long wait for a league title next season.
