Arsenal and Manchester United go head-to-head on Sunday in a match that could go a long way in deciding the Premier League top four.

The Gunners simply must win to keep their hopes of securing automatic qualification to the Champions League alive, and they’ll come up against a weakened United side.

Jose Mourinho, whose side are fifth in the table, one spot above Arsenal, is prioritising the Europa League. With United playing the return leg of their semi-final against Celta Vigo on Thursday, the Portuguese has confirmed he will rotate his squad for Sunday’s match at the Emirates Stadium.

"We are going to try (to beat Arsenal)," Mourinho said, per the Telegraph. "We are not going to Arsenal to say, 'Beat us, or beat us five or six nil'. We are going there to fight for a result. But it’s impossible... like, I cannot do it in another way.

"If Celta was playing with their best team, if Celta was fighting for important things in La Liga, we would go in the same circumstances. But I cannot now play with the same team (against Arsenal) that played here (against Celta), and then repeat again on the next Thursday.

"So, we have to be human with the players, we have to be sensible and (show) common sense in relation to our situation in the Premier League.”

Mourinho: Wenger will be happy with me

Mourinho has a long-standing rivalry with Arsene Wenger but he insists there is no bad blood between the pair. After the Frenchman claimed he is ready to “make peace” with Mourinho, the United manager said that wouldn’t be necessary.

"He doesn’t need to (make peace)," Mourinho, 54, added. "He doesn’t need to because there are no problems. In the last match at Old Trafford, we shook hands before, after. I remember that I still met him in the corridor for the press conferences, we shook hands again. He doesn’t need to make peace.

"So for me not a problem at all and I think he will be really pleased with me that I am going to change my team against Arsenal, so I think he’ll be really happy with me!"

Mourinho spent big last summer

Mourinho spent more than £150 million in his first summer at Old Trafford, highlighting his desire to waste on time in turning United’s fortunes around.

As for Arsenal, it’s been three years since their last high-profile signing, Alexis Sanchez arriving from Barcelona in July 2014.

In 2015, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was asked to pick his combined Arsenal/Man United XI. Here is his line-up.

Merson's XI (4-3-2-1): De Gea; Valencia, Koscielny, Rojo, Gibbs; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Blind, Cazorla; Rooney, Sanchez; Giroud.
