Guillem Balague shortlists five players Real Madrid want to sign this summer

Real Madrid and Barcelona are battling it out at the top of La Liga to be crowned Spanish champions.

Both teams are level on 81 points, and Barcelona are currently topping the table on goal difference. However, it’s actually advantage Madrid at the moment, as they have a game in hand over their rivals.

Madrid are also chasing European glory and have one foot in the Champions League final, after a 3-0 win against city rivals Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. It’s unlikely they will throw away a three goal advantage at the Vicente Calderon next week.

Despite dominating both domestically and continentally, Zinedine Zidane is clearly not satisfied with his squad, and according to Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague, has targetted five huge names to bring in this summer.

A move to Madrid is often the dream of every footballer, so it’s unlikely that many players would turn down the chance to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu next season.

According to Balague, who tweeted on Saturday, five names have made Florentino Perez’s shopping list.

Those names are Kylian Mbappe, David de Gea, Antoine Griezmann, Robert Lewandowski and Paolo Dybala.

He also suggests that Madrid are only realistically looking to land two of those big names.

Should they be serious about these players, they will face competition for all of them. Mbappe is being scouted by a number of Europe’s top clubs, Chelsea are apparently seriously interested in Dybala, Lewandowski has just signed a new contract at Bayern and Griezmann may be put off from moving across Madrid to his current team’s great rivals.

De Gea and Madrid have previous, with Los Blancos almost signing him in the summer of 2015. He seems like the most realistic of targets. However, with the financial power Madrid hold, it’s likely they can turn the heads of any of these players.

With the 2016/17 season drawing to a close, Zidane’s side are in pole position to land both the Champions League and La Liga titles.

Signing any of these big names would make them an almost unstoppable force next season.
