Grimsby boss Mike Newell is considering offering trialist Chris Jones a contract at Blundell Park.

The 19-year-old striker has been training with the Mariners since the start of the month after turning down a new deal at Swansea. Jones impressed in Grimsby's pre-season friendly win against Belgian outfit RRFC Montegnee on Wednesday.

Newell said: "I've seen enough to think he's got something and I think we'll be looking at taking a chance with him."

He added: "Chris was really lively on Wednesday in the first-half and he impressed me. It wasn't easy coming into a side that chopped and changed but he did well."
