Southampton have confirmed that Stern John has rejected an offer to stay at the club and has left St Mary`s.

The 32-year-old was out of contract this summer but new manager Alan Pardew wanted the Trinidad & Tobago forward to stay and offered him a new deal.

A statement said: "Stern John has turned down a generous new offer from the club."

He added: "Over the past two weeks the club has held constructive dialogue with both the player and his agent and offered him an attractive two-year contract.

"However we have been informed that the player has declined this offer and as a free agent wishes to pursue other options within the Championship."
