Swansea winger Thomas Butler is targeting a return within six weeks after undergoing a hernia operation.

The 28-year-old decided to have the surgery to cure a long-standing problem despite the season starting on Saturday.

"I could be out for around six weeks but hopefully I can come back in four," he told his club's official website.

"It's not the greatest start to a new season under a new manager [Paulo Sousa] but I wouldn't have done myself any favours if I'd tried to start the season.

"I've spoken to the gaffer and he said he had similar problems when he was playing so he understands."
