Notts County boss Ian McParland has denied claims the big-spending League Two side are set to make amove for Dietmar Hamann.

The 35-year-old former Liverpool midfielder is out of contract after leaving Manchester City in the summer. With the likes of Sol Campbell and Kasper Schmeicel already linked with County, McParland has moved to rule out any move for the German midfielder.

Speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post, he said: "It really baffles me, some of these people who make these stories up, I don't know where they come from. I have a chuckle at times."

He added: "I don't just want to bring any players in. They have to be right to fit into my dressing room because we have got a great bunch of boys with a good team spirit.

"It will not just be down to the player's ability, it will be down to what he is like as a lad. I don't want any big-time Charlies."
