New Darlington manager Steve Staunton has made his first two signings since taking over at the Darlington Arena.

Staunton has moved to sign former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, 34, and Liverpool defender Robbie Threlfall on loan.

Whelan, who once cost Coventry £2million, has joined on a non-contract basis, while Threlfall will spend a month with the Football League's bottom club.

Both go into the squad for Saturday's trip to Dagenham.
