There’s much debate today over which league is the best in the world - and there’s no right or wrong answer.Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A and, of course, the English Premier League are all contenders for the title of ‘best league in the world’. European football is far and away the strongest, in terms of quality, at this moment in time. Each of the aforementioned leagues have their pros and cons, and there are many world-class players plying their trade in all four. But rewind the clock 25-30 years and one league stood head and shoulders above the rest.Serie A had many of the world’s best players during the early-1990s, hence why Channel 4’s Football Italia is so fondly remembered by British football fans of a certain age today, while the great AC Milan were dominating in the European Cup.

English football in the early-90s was low on quality

The Premier League, on the other hand, was unrecognisable from the all-singing, all-dancing product we see today.

Back in 1993, the Premier League was only a year old and English football was still blood and thunder, terrible pitches and almost entirely made up of homegrown British players.

You won't see a worse 20 seconds than this

England’s top flight was nowhere near as technical as it is today - foreign players and coaches have improved standards immeasurably - and a fantastic clip showing the worst 20 seconds in Premier League history has gone viral on Twitter over the past few days.

It took place during a Premier League match between Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City at Loftus Road - and many of you reading this will never have seen this footage before.

Check it out here…

Magical.

An Italian website has named it as the ugliest 20 seconds of football ever and brilliantly analysed the clip frame by frame. Translate it and read it HERE because it’s well worth it.
