Following his £75 million move to Manchester United this summer, everything that Romelu Lukaku does on the football pitch will be scrutinised. The Belgian striker, who left Everton for the Red Devils in order to win trophies, made his first appearance for the Red Devils against LA Galaxy on Saturday evening.Lukaku had a couple of chances to open his account for his new club but was unable to hit the back of the net.Instead, the Belgian was outshone by his young teammate Marcus Rashford, who scored twice for United in the first half.Marouane Fellaini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial scored United’s other three goals before Giovani dos Santos made the scoreline slightly more respectable for the home side with a late brace.Lukaku will be disappointed that he failed to score on his ‘debut’. At times, it felt as if he was probably a little too eager to find the target. One of his shots, in particular, was incredibly optimistic. In the 74th minute of the match, Lukaku received the ball, span and then walloped it into Row Z, much to the amusement of Chelsea fans on Twitter.

Needless to say, Chelsea fans found Lukaku’s attempt at goal most amusing…

Mourinho confident Lukaku will shine for United

However, United boss Jose Mourinho told reporters after the match that he has no doubt Lukaku will quickly settle in at Old Trafford thanks to his experience of playing in the Premier League.

“He was difficult to get,” the Portuguese coach was quoted as saying by United’s official website. “He is from the Premier League. Obviously there are other good strikers in football, but the Premier League is a very specific habitat. A difficult habitat for strikers and normally they need some time to adapt, but Lukaku has been in the Premier League for five seasons.”
