The inaugural Star Sixes tournament has been a lot of fun, hasn’t it.Crowds flocked to the O2 Arena in London over the past few days to catch a glimpse of various former stars from nations across the world, including Steven Gerrard, Deco, Carles Puyol, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Robert Pires and Jay-Jay Okocha. And they weren’t left disappointed by the quality of football on show. Many of the former pros, you suspect, could still do a job for a professional club competing at a pretty decent level.Over the 26 matches, 135 goals were scored - an average of 5.19 goals per game. Those who parted with their hard-earned cash for a ticket weren’t exactly short-changed by the experience.

France won the title

In the end, the title was won by France, who recorded a narrow 2-1 victory over surprise package Denmark in the final.

Goals from Ludovic Giuly and Youri Djorkaeff sealed the title for Les Bleus.

Spain finished in third place after losing 5-2 to France in the semi-finals and thrashing Brazil 11-3 in the third place play-off.

The moment Pires owned Puyol

As well as goals and free-flowing football, there were also plenty of skills on show throughout the tournament.

And Pires, one of the standout performers at this year’s Star Sixes, produced a moment of genius in the semis to leave the great Puyol on his backside.

Pires missed out on Player of the Tournament award

Despite that piece of magic, and the fact he captained his team to glory, Pires missed out on the Player of the Tournament award.

That accolade, instead, went to Denmark’s Chris Sorensen.

The Golden Boot winner, meanwhile, was wrapped up by Spain’s Michel Salgado, the former Real Madrid full-back who scored a total of nine goals - four more than Julio Baptista and Giuly, who sat joint-second on the top scorers list, with five apiece.
