On the face of it, it’s been a very frustrating summer for Liverpool. They may have signed Mohamed Salah for a fee that could exceed the club record £35 million they spent on Andy Carroll and snapped up Dominic Solanke from Chelsea but, other than that, it’s been tough for Jurgen Klopp. And it seems Liverpool are no closer to securing a deal for their next two transfer targets - Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita. The Reds looked set to secure a deal for Van Dijk earlier in the window but after Southampton reported them to the Premier League for their approach, Liverpool withdrew their interest and apologised to the south coast club.As for Keita, Liverpool are having difficulty attempting to convince RB Leipzig to sell their midfielder. It’s believed the Anfield outfit are willing to pay what it takes for the 22-year-old but the Bundesliga club are simply not willing to negotiate right now. While negotiations for Van Dijk and Keita look set to rumble long into August, there might be a different transfer target arriving at the club in the coming days.

Need for a left-back

Ask any Liverpool fan which position they most need to strengthen this summer and many of them would say left-back.

James Milner played almost the entirety of last season in that role, having been selected ahead of Alberto Moreno. With the Spaniard set to leave the club and Milner not naturally a left-back, a new left-sided full-back is imperative this summer.

And it seems they might have found one.

The club have been heavily linked with Hull City’s Andrew Robertson since the Tigers were relegated from the Premier League last season. And now, it looks as though a deal will be struck imminently.

Why? Because BBC Radio Humberside morning show presenter and Hull City commentator David Burns has claimed Robertson has left Hull’s training camp in Portugal.

It doesn’t take a genius to put two-and-two together and realise that the 23-year-old is probably flying back to England right now to seal a move to Liverpool.

It might not be Van Dijk or Keita but Liverpool fans will no doubt be satisfied that their problem area has been addressed.
