Romelu Lukaku had an unofficial ‘debut’ to forget against LA Galaxy on Saturday night.

The Belgian striker, who completed his £75 million transfer from Everton earlier this month, missed a couple of gilt-edged opportunities to open his account for his new employers.

One of his shots - a speculative effort from outside the box which landed in Row Z of the Stubhub Centre - went viral across social media. A Chelsea fan, meanwhile, created an amusing compilation video of the 24-year-old’s individual ‘highlights’ which also went viral.

Lukaku is in the process of coming to terms with the pressures of playing for one of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Everything he does on the pitch from now on will be closely scrutinised, and you sense that many fans of rival clubs are keen to see him flop because of the extraordinary amount of money United have paid for his services.

However, Lukaku silenced his haters on Monday night by scoring his first goal for the Red Devils against Real Salt Lake at the Rio Tinto Stadium.

Following neat build-up play, Lukaku received an excellent Henrikh Mkhitaryan pass and brought the ball under his control following a slightly awkward first touch.

He then dribbled past the goalkeeper and found the back of the net with a left-footed strike.
