Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you're likely aware of the huge crossover fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Leading up to their fight on August 26, McGregor and Mayweather have been appearing face-to-face in conferences across the world.

McGregor, who has never entered a professional boxing ring during his career, has been making fun of Mayweather's alleged tax issues and age in the build up to the fight.

Mayweather may be 40, but he could very well still have the edge over McGregor based on his illustrious boxing career to date.

Knowing this, McGregor will have been stepping up in his preparation for the mega-money fight at the end of August.

In a blow for him and his team, however, it had been rumoured that he has been knocked out in a sparring session.

According to his management team, though, McGregor has not been knocked out.

The rumour started with Jessie Vargas, who claimed that Bradley Wheeler knocked McGregor out during a round of sparring.

You'd think that McGregor would opt to spar with a boxer in the build up to his first ever boxing match, not an MMA fighter.

Rumour then switched onto Brandon Rios, claiming that the lightweight boxer had been the one to knock McGregor out.

McGregor's team have denied any of this, and responded simply with this statement: “The guy mentioned by Jessie Vargas is Brandon Rios, not Brad Wheeler.

"Neither have sparred with Conor."

Indeed, Rios has spoken out on the subject, too, saying that he doesn't know who McGregor is and definitely has not sparred with him.

“The world’s gone crazy, My phone’s been blowing up. I’ve been getting texts messages and calls about this. I’ve never met McGregor, and I don’t know who he is."

Even Mayweather doesn't believe the rumours of McGregor getting knocked out.

“Me and Jesse Vargas are in communication. Everything is rumours until I see it, I have to see it with my own eyes."

It certainly sounds like this was a story made up to add even more interest to the fight between McGregor and Mayweather.

It will be interesting to see if there is anything to the story, but I doubt we'll ever find out.

This isn't even the first time claims about McGregor's poor form in boxing have arisen. Chris van Heerden said he went six rounds against McGregor and "was not fazed at all".

I guess we'll see just how competent McGregor is in the boxing ring come August 26.
