Sadly, it looks as if Tiger Woods' incredible golfing career is reaching its climax.

After dominating the sport for the best part of 15 years, the past few years have been a nightmare for Woods, who has had to battle endless injury woes and issues with his personal life.

These problems have taken their toll, and the legendary American now finds himself in a lowly 1,005th in the World Golf Rankings; the lowest he has even been.

But, Woods' reputation in the game has never diminished, and many of the golfing world still hold him in high regard for what he managed to achieve during his best years in the sport.

And one of those that has looked to Tiger to help him with his own issues include former world number one Jason Day, who revealed he has been receiving help from the American with his putting stroke going into this week's Open Championship.

The Australian commented: “It was more about my putting stroke. We had a look at it and it seemed pretty decent.

"It’s great to have a set of eyes like Tiger’s, who’s one of the best clutch putters of all time, to be able to kind of see on TV what you’re doing wrong. So just trying to tidy up a little bit and hopefully I putt a little better this week.

“I had a chat to him and he seems like everything is doing okay with him. I was just trying to tidy up a little bit with the putting this week.”

Day had ended last year ranked the best golfer in the world, but 2017 has not been kind to him as complications with his mother meant he has failed to replicate the form that saw him ascend into one of the best golfers in the world in 2015 and 2016.

And the Australian was emotional when prompted about his loss of form this season.

He said: “I had the scare with my mom at the start of the year, when you feel like you’re going to lose someone that are very close to you, there’s nothing you want to do more than just be with them and you don’t even want to think about playing golf or even think about working.

“And obviously the time that I would be spending working and practising, it caught up to me and I hadn’t been playing as great as golf as I should have, but within reason.

“I needed to take that time off because I thought I was losing my mom, and didn’t think she was going to be around anymore."

And, when considering what aspects of his game was not up to the level of what it was in 2015 and 2016, Day commented: “If you take my years 2015 and 2016, I hit it long and straight. Straightish. I hit my iron shots a lot closer and I holed everything on the greens.

“This year it’s not as long, it’s not as straight. My iron shots aren’t as close, and I’m not holing as many putts.

“So it’s a perfect formula for not having a good year.”

Having endured a poor season and having missed his last two cuts, Day is not expected to win his second Major Championship this week.

However, could the putting tips provided by Tiger Woods prove to be the catalyst as Day looks to turn his season around?
