Sergio Garcia’s second round at the Open appeared to have hit a rather bizarre obstacle in Friday's play.Missing the green completely on the par-3 fourth at Royal Birkdale, Garcia was forced to play out of the gorse bushes down in Merseyside.Frustrated at his performance on the hole, Garcia took an angry swipe at those gorse bushes, and immediately felt the consequences. The Spaniard clutched his right shoulder after the show of irritation and was subsequently seen by the physiotherapist on duty at Royal Birkdale.Garcia’s bogey on the fourth and obvious discomfort did not bode well for his further success in the tournament. However, moments later Garcia turned things around.Garcia continued despite the pain, and went on to eagle the fifth with a truly magnificent shot off the green which you can also watch below.

However, the recent Masters champion continued to receive treatment on his shoulder and there ever concerns he was about to pull out of the tournament.

It wouldn't be the first time he has had to withdraw from a Major as in 2014 he picked up a knee injury which ruled him out of the PGA Championship.

Nevertheless, the 36-year-old will continue to fight in the British Open, secretly believing he can capitalize on the momentum of his Masters win to take another title home. With ten top-10 finishes in British Open play in the past, Garcia can be confident of success in Southport.

At the time of writing, Garcia trails leader Matt Kuchar by seven shots on two-over par as round two progresses.
