A former UFC champion believes that Conor McGregor can beat Floyd Mayweather.

The boxing match between the UFC lightweight champion and boxing legend is coming up soon as they are set to fight on August 26th.

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, who lost the title to McGregor last November at UFC 205, is not a stranger to McGregor’s antics.

Alvarez admits that the circus is much more enjoyable to view from the outside instead of being in the middle of it.

"I was sitting back with some popcorn, really enjoying this tour they went through,” Alvarez told ESPN’s 5ive Rounds podcast recently. “The most comical thing for me, even when I watch movies, is the guy who's so crazy confident about himself, like with the mink jacket. To me, that is so funny. I wish I could be like that. As a fighter, I wish I could do that, so I could make people laugh. But I can't. It’s not my style. I'm glad he does it because we need that. We need guys like that."

Even though he is enjoying the back and forth trash talk between these two stars, it has created some controversy. However, it did bring a massive amount of attention to the upcoming contest and made the fight a must-watch event for many.

Alvarez believes that McGregor has a legitimate shot to win against the undefeated all-time boxing great.

"Conor has about three or four rounds to get this done. . . Within those four rounds, if you don't think Conor can knock this guy out, you're an idiot or you just don't know fighting because it can very well happen.”

“If he doesn't get it done by then, then it could look very one-sided. The technical boxing of Floyd Mayweather is enough to make it look really one-sided for him. But Conor, there is a very real chance that he can put him away."

Alvarez says he’s no longer concerned with the title. Instead, he is now focused on proving his doubters wrong and wants to give the fans the fights that they want to see.

“I just wanted to show people I could win the title and I think I’ve done that and I think, more and more as I’m getting older in the sport, I just kind of want to give back more to the fans than be concerned with my own winning, be a little more selfless. So if I can just focus on the fights that are happening and make the fight as spectacular as possible, I think I’ll be happy. That’s a new goal of mine,” Alvarez said.

“Everybody could see hints of me in [the Gaethje-Johnson] fight, the way Justin kind of puts it out there. If you get the right guy in front of you, you can make some magic - and he's one of those guys. These are the kind of fights I win every time. So it should be fun to see who is 'America's Most Violent.' It's a battle of that right there."
