Jose Mourinho will surely be happy with his business at Manchester United so far.

Both Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku have arrived for more than £100 million combined as they look to improve on their sixth-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

But with the prospect of Champions League football, it seems Mourinho wants to continue spending.

The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Ivan Perisic, Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier but haven’t been able to complete their third signing of the summer.

But one former player, Michael Owen, doesn’t feel they particularly need any further reinforcements.

Owen on Mourinho's priority

Instead, Owen believes that Mourinho’s priority should now be trying to keep hold of David de Gea.

“You look at their squad and it’s hard to find any chinks in the armour,” Owen told the Metro.

"What players will become available now that would improve their starting XI? The main thing was a centre forward and they’ve done that.

"The key for Manchester United now is keeping David De Gea – if they lose him that will definitely weaken their side.

"There’s no-one out there who will improve that position. Keeping him is a huge thing if they can do that.

"Overall, I think they’re in good shape. They’ve got their main bit of business done – if they can add one of two more faces Jose will be delighted but I wouldn’t say they’re in desperate need for anything right now."

Mourinho claims De Gea will stay

De Gea has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu ever since his move in 2015 fell through on deadline day.

However, according to Mourinho himself, the ‘keeper definitely won’t be leaving Old Trafford this summer.

"I can guarantee that he is not going this season," Mourinho told reporters in San Jose ahead of Sunday's pre-season International Champions Cup match against Real Madrid.

"My feeling is it will be very difficult for him to go. He is a very honest, straight boy. He was contacted for a long time, the club was closed and then we opened. I always have this feeling when a player has a desire to go, then I don't like to stop players...

"So we opened it and then they decided to close it. I see him really happy, focused, working better than ever and 100 per cent he stays with us."

So, that’s that then. De Gea will be a United player this season, it seems.
