Back in June, the Golden State Warriors won their second NBA Championship in the past three seasons with a 4-1 Finals series win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Kevin Durant was given the Finals MVP award after his outstanding performances across the series where he scored 30 or more points in each game despite being marked most of the time by LeBron James.
Winning the NBA title was one of the goals Durant set himself initially when he made the switch from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Warriors the summer before, but now he is essentially the driving force of the team that looks set to rule over the NBA for years to come.
Durant's move to Golden State in 2016 brought about a super team that looks set to be a dominant ruling over the Western Conference, with the members being himself, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
Green recently spoke to GiveMeSport about several different topics including his 2014 MVP teammate and his performances in this year's NBA Finals. He revealed as well what was the first thing he said to him after they won the championship.
"Just congrats man, we did it… It’s what we set out to do when we met last year, and we did it… Just congrats, enjoy it."
Durant probably did enjoy it, as it was his first championship of his career after he fell short during his time with the Thunder against the Miami Heat in 2012. With the way the Warriors are going, there's most likely going to be a couple more coming his way before he calls it a day on his time in the NBA as well.
Things may start to get tougher though for Golden State, as most of the key players in the Western Conference have improved their teams this offseason, with the Houston Rockets trading for Chris Paul, while the Thunder traded for Paul George. Next season won't be as easy as it has been for the Warriors to claim the number one seed in the conference.
