Bournemouth have confirmed that midfielder Anthony Edgar has returned to West Ham after the Football League refused an extension to his loan deal.

Despite the club being under a transfer embargo, Edgar's emergency one-month loan was sanctioned by the Football League in September as the Cherries were in danger of being unable to field a side.

However, the 19-year-old has been refused permission to stay a second month at Dean Court and returns to the Hammers having made four appearances.

"Anthony has gone back and the Football League have not allowed us to extend the loan at this moment in time," boss Eddie Howe told the Echo.

"We're disappointed to lose him because it leaves us very short of options on the left-hand side of midfield."
