Throughout this summer, it looked as though Romelu Lukaku was set to return to Chelsea.

However, out of nowhere, Manchester United stole in and convinced him to move to Old Trafford in a £75 million deal.

But what made Lukaku change his mind?

Well, Paul Pogba has been credited for playing a big role in the deal.

Pogba and Lukaku went on holiday together in Los Angeles, with the midfielder seemingly twisting the Belgian’s ear enough to stay in LA for Manchester United’s US tour.

The role Pogba played

And Lukaku also revealed what Pogba used to do that planted that United seed in his head.

"I spoke with Paul a lot, obviously," said Lukaku. "We spent our holiday together and he said: 'What do you want to do?'

"I told him that I was thinking a lot about signing for United, something was telling me [to do it].

"I live near Manchester so, when I was coming to the city [centre], I would drive past Old Trafford and ask my mates what they thought.

"Me and Paul, we’d go to the city to have dinner and he’d drive past Old Trafford on purpose."

How Mourinho sealed the deal

However, it wasn’t Pogba that played the biggest role in the deal.

That person was, in fact, Jose Mourinho.

Having sold him whilst at Chelsea, the Portuguese boss was desperate to steal him from under his former club's nose.

But how did he do that?

Well, Lukaku has explained all.

"At the end of the day I had to make my own choices,” the striker said.

"It was the conversation I had with the manager that really convinced me the most, the plans and how he wanted to rebuild the club and he wanted me to be part of it.

"I am grateful for the chance."

Mourinho has signed both Lukaku and Victor Lindelof for United this season as he looks to “rebuild the club.”

But ‘The Special One’ won’t stop there.

United are expected to continue their spending with the likes of Ivan Perisic, Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier being heavily linked with the club.

So, while ‘Agent Pogba’ certainly played his role in Lukaku’s move to United, it was Mourinho that sealed the deal with his words of wisdom.
