One of the biggest storylines of the NBA offseason so far is Kyrie Irving's growing discontent and eagerness to get out of Cleveland. The Cavaliers' star point guard has asked for a trade, and would like to be sent to one of four teams - the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs or Minnesota Timberwolves. No trade is imminent at the moment, so for now, Irving is stuck in Cleveland, but he expects to be on a new team before the new NBA season gets underway. As you can see in the video below, though, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert believes Irving will still be a member of the Cavs when the 2017-18 season tips off later this year:

“Right now Kyrie Irving is on a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers for two or three years, depending on the last year,” Gilbert said in the video. “So as of now, he’s one of our best players; sure, we expect him to be in camp.”

If Irving does indeed report to Cleveland's training camp, it likely won't be in a happy manner, as he clearly expects to be traded soon.

The center of Irving's frustrations is his relationship with LeBron James, as reports have stated that the talented point guard wants out from under LeBron's massive shadow. However, when addressing those reports, new Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman did what everyone is doing these days, crying "fake news" on the media's reporting:

“The people that have been in this building everyday haven’t seen any of that animosity,” Altman said in the video. “A lot of that I do think is overblown, and we haven’t seen a lot of this animosity that’s been out there in the media.”

Obviously, something has gone wrong with Irving and LeBron or else Irving wouldn't be demanding a trade. So, perhaps now that he's officially the team's general manager, Altman will have a better read on what's happening in Cleveland's locker room.

Altman had plenty of praise for Irving and clearly wants him to stay in Cleveland, but it remains to be seen if that's a possibility at this point.

Despite what Gilbert says about Irving reporting to training camp, it may be in the best interest of all involved parties to ship Irving to a new team. The asking price will be high, but there are plenty of teams out there who could use the services of a talented young point guard like Irving.
