What Liverpool fans really want right now is for Philippe Coutinho to publicly announce his desire to stay at the club.

With Barcelona seemingly extremely keen to sign the Brazilian, it’s a very worrying time for everyone associated with the Anfield outfit.

After all, when Barca come knocking, it can be very difficult to say no as a player.

While Jurgen Klopp has insisted the midfielder isn’t for sale, rejecting a €100 million offer and keeping an unsettled player at the club would be considered foolish.

And while they wait for an official comment from Coutinho, Liverpool supporters will be analysing his attitude over the coming days to try and work out what he’s currently thinking.

Some Liverpool fans immediately jumped to conclusions when they saw Coutinho looking rather glum after landing in Germany for Liverpool’s pre-season tour.

The miserable weather probably had something to do with it, though.

But it’s not just Liverpool fans looking for any sign of Coutinho’s current state of mind.

Club legend John Barnes has also spoken out about Coutinho’s recent behaviour, noticing how he acted after scoring a screamer during Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Leicester in the Premier League Asia Trophy final.

Barnes noticed something 'not right' about Coutinho

“You could tell by the way he reacted after he scored, with no celebration or anything, that something isn’t quite right with Philippe at Liverpool,” Barnes told ESPN.

“It would be great if Liverpool keep him, but if he goes, I wish him all the best.”

Maybe it's the fact that it was only a pre-season friendly, John...

Liverpool can still be competitive without Coutinho

Despite the fear of losing arguably their best player, Barnes still believes Liverpool can still compete for major honours without Coutinho.

“Jurgen Klopp still has a good squad, so he will maximise the potential of the squad without Coutinho,” Barnes added.

“We’d like him to stay, but if he goes Klopp will still find a way of being competitive.”
