Manchester United may have spent more than £100 million already this summer but they won’t stop there.

Victor Lindelof (£30m) and Romelu Lukaku (£75m) have arrived at Old Trafford and the Portuguese boss hasn't been afraid to reveal the positions he's targeting next.

"I would like one player [to be] a midfield player, [that] would give me more options to the balance and the team,” he said earlier this week.

"Another one an attacking player, especially that can play through the wings to give me more attacking options but I never speak about players that belong to other teams.”

That midfielder looks increasingly likely to be Nemanja Matic, who is keen to reunite with his former boss at the Theatre of Dreams.

But there’s has been some confusion over which winger will be arriving.

United have been linked with Inter’s Ivan Perisic throughout this summer but were recently reported to be keen on Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.

How United may have ruined the Perisic deal

However, a potential deal for the Welshman looks impossible after he made it clear he wants to stay at the Bernabeu.

But momentarily turning their attention to Bale means that United could now miss out on Perisic, according to the Independent.

They claim: “Once the prospect of signing Bale was raised and looked concrete a few weeks ago, the Premier League club downgraded the Croatian winger to their secondary option, having already been frustrated with the progress of the move.”

That meant Perisic went to China on Inter’s pre-season tour and left United hoping to strike a deal for Bale.

That won’t be happening this summer, meaning the Red Devils will now revert back to Perisic - who will cost around £48 million.

The Independent conclude that “Mourinho does still want to bring Perisic in this summer” but have they ruined their chances of signing him by chasing Bale?

Time will tell.
