Tyron Woodley’s welterweight championship clash against Demian Maia was just one of three big title fights on a stacked UFC 214 card in Anaheim, California.

Jon Jones stole the show with a third-round knockout against bitter rival Daniel Cormier to reclaim the light heavyweight crown, while Cris Cyborg finally managed to get her hands on UFC gold with a dominant TKO display against Tonya Evinger.

If there’s one fight that many weren’t too entertained by, it was The Chosen One retaining his gold against the Brazilian grappling guru in a five-round unanimous decision win.

It was a less than convincing display, and Woodley’s start to life as a UFC champion hasn’t been filled with highlights since knocking out Robbie Lawler exactly one year ago, and since then, he drew with Stephen Thompson and that was followed by a boring majority decision win against Wonderboy.

Still, credit was given to Woodley for neutralising Maia’s threat and didn’t let Maia utilise his superior ground game, but they also broke the record for the least amount of punches landed in a championship fight, so it came as no surprise that the lacklustre action saw the majority of fans booing their fight.

In fact, it was so boring that UFC president Dana White has cancelled Woodley’s planned clash against Georges St-Pierre, and has awarded that bout to Michael Bisping again – and he wasn’t too happy with Woodley’s performance either.

DANA'S CRITICISM

He said: “Listen, when you break a record for the least punches every thrown in a five-round title fight, and you beat it, by I think it was like 130 [strikes] and these guys threw 60 or something like that, I think that sums it up.”

Dana went on to add that he doesn’t think fans want to see Woodley fight on pay-per-view again, and decided in the fifth-round that he’d give the GSP fight to The Count instead because he turns up to fight.

He added: “That ship turned around and f***ing sailed back. [I decided at] f***ing round five (of Woodley-Maia).

“Michael Bisping will show up and fight.

“If you ask fans if they want to see Woodley fight again, I think that will be a flat-out no.

“Who wants to pay to see Tyron Woodley fight again? He’s an absolute physical specimen, the guy could’ve finished the fight at any time he wanted to but, you know, he didn’t want to take the risks. [If] you take no risks, you get no reward.”

Woodley and Dana already share a frosty relationship, but Woodley did himself no favours with that performance – fans won’t want to spend a lot of money on him if he’s not proving to be a highlight reel fighter and is chasing the big-money fights himself.
