After losing star point guard Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets this offseason, the Los Angeles Clippers tried to remain competitive by trading for Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari. However, Gallinari has been suiting up for the Italian national team this summer as European squads prepare for the EuroBasket tournament. On Sunday, the newest Clipper did something that won't make his new team happy, as he ended up injuring his hand during an exhibition game against the Netherlands. As you can see in the video below, Gallinari is trying to grab a rebound after a free throw when he takes issue with something Netherlands forward Jito Kok does and gets into a scuffle. Gallinari's hand injury occurs when he slugs the Netherlands player in the face, forcing him to head to the locker room early:

Now, Gallinari will miss the upcoming tournament for Italy and will also probably face some sort of discipline on the international level, but that's not the Clippers' big concern, as they simply hope the talented forward won't have to miss any NBA action.

Fortunately, sources told the Los Angeles Times that Gallinari is only expected to be out for about a month, although no Los Angeles team physicians have any information on the injury just yet:

"The official said Gallinari is expected to be out three to four weeks, but that the Clippers will know more in a couple of days once team physicians talk with the Italian basketball federation’s medical staff," Los Angeles Times reporter Broderick Turner writes.

"The Clippers official said the team expects Gallinari, who will miss the upcoming EuroBasket tournament, to be ready for the start of training camp. The Clippers will have their media day Sept. 25 and will leave afterwards for camp in Honolulu."

That's good news for the Clippers, who can't afford to have Gallinari miss his first training camp with the team, especially as Los Angeles tries to regroup after losing CP3 to the Rockets.

The Clippers have experience with star players missing time after punching people, unfortunately, as star forward Blake Griffin was suspended four games and also broke his hand after punching one of the team's equipment managers.

The Clippers finished 51-31 last season - good for fourth place in the Western Conference. However, if they're going to make another run at the postseason without CP3, they'll need all their key players to stay healthy.

Hopefully for Clippers fans, Gallinari is simply getting his ridiculous injury out of the way early.
