On the day of the Golden State Warriors’ victory parade, LeBron James posted an Instagram video that showed him working out while dancing and pumping his fist in the air to rapper Tee Grizzley’s “First Day Out”.

Over the weekend, Warriors point guard Stephen Curry attended former teammate Harrison Barnes’ wedding, and in the process, he appeared to mock James’ dance during the reception, much to the delight of Kyrie Irving, who was also in attendance.

Now regarded as the “LeBron Challenge” on social media, a movement has sprung where fans have submitted their own versions of LeBron’s dance, essentially to make fun of him.

According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Curry admitted that he was mimicking LeBron, but not in a disrespectful way.

“I've been watching that video twice a day since it happened because its my favorite video in the entire world,” Curry said. “He made a song popular by making a video. And that lives. So now every time I hear that song, that's all I think about. And I've been doing that dance because of him, at my house, at dinner. When something good happens, I pull that out, because I like it and it makes me laugh and it makes me happy. Not making fun of him.”

For reference, here was LeBron’s original video:

And here was Curry’s hilarious impression:

As you can see, it was a spot-on rendition, from the arm movements to the facial expressions. It must have taken a lot of practice to get the details correct.

When asked whether or not Irving’s presence made the moment look even worse, Curry admitted that it did.

“One thousand percent,” Curry said. “That was just a casualty of the moment because me and him were hanging out all night. Then that song came on and I was having a good time. Obviously, that's a separate side story to their relationship, but neither one of us was trying to clown him.”

By now, you’ve probably heard that Irving asked the Cavaliers to trade him in order to get away from LeBron in the hopes of becoming the face of his own franchise.

While Curry said all the right things to the reporter, you can make your own assumptions about whether or not he meant to poke fun at LeBron, who he has squared off against in each of the last three NBA Finals.
