Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson has wasted no time reacting to Saturday's embarrassing 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Staines by wielding the axe on three members of his squad.

On-loan midfielder Joss Labadie has returned to West Brom with immediate effect while strikers Nathan Elder and Kris Bright have been made available for loan with a view to permanent transfers.

A list containing the names of several of the club's young professionals has also been circulated in an attempt to gain some valuable first-team experience.

Simpson told the club's official website: "None of my actions can change what happened but it has been made perfectly clear that as a football club, Shrewsbury Town fans deserve better. It is up to us all to now react in the best way possible.

"We have to learn from this weekend and hope this is the lowest point of our season. We could have so much to look forward to - but a line has to be drawn in the sand now to allow us to be better.

"All of the players know the score and all realise that it is their careers at stake."
