There has been a lot of talk about a potential rematch between Tony Bellew and David Haye after their early March grudge match that ended in a massive upset when Haye succumbed to an Achilles injury.

Haye has always felt that he is the better boxer between the two and that the injury hampered him from delivering a victory he so emphatically thinks he deserved.

It was such thinking that had many in boxing circles thinking that a rematch was on the cards, with Haye desperate to prove himself and Bellew eager to show that his win was no mere fluke.

However, promoter Eddie Hearn has delivered a bit of a sucker punch to the hopes of so many of the British boxing public after revealing that talks between the two parties have broken down and are effectively dead.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Hearn said: "I don't think Bellew-Haye will happen. Although there was hugs and kisses in the ring after the fight, trying to get these two to agree to anything is a complete disaster.

"Tony Bellew feels like he got the win, so he should get the benefits of that win, and David Haye feels like Bellew still isn't on his level. When you're talking about ring walks, who goes first on the poster, changing rooms, splits - all this kind of stuff, it's impossible.

"I think at this stage, Bellew-Haye II is virtually dead."

Disappointing news then, for all involved.

After such an exciting first clash, it is not the update boxing fans were hoping for.

However, Bellew revealed earlier this week that he is expecting his next opponent to be announced soon, after veering his attention away from Andre Ward.
