The curious case of Moussa Sissoko just got interesting.

When Tottenham splashed £30 million on the French international last summer to steal him from under the noses of Everton, more than a few eyebrows were raised.

The 27-year-old was part of a disappointing Newcastle side that suffered relegation to the Championship, but he went on to have an impressive showing with France at the European Championships.

That persuaded Spurs to pay £30 million for his services, but the former Toulouse man failed to impress at White Hart Lane and left several Spurs fans frustrated in the process.

Despite the white half of north London qualifying for the Champions League again, it seems as if Sissoko is surplus to requirements under Mauricio Pochettino.

So what's next for Sissoko? Well, it seems his career is set for a bit of a dip as Turkish side Trabzonspor - not playing in the Champions League next season - are lining up a move for the midfielder.

Confirming their interest, Trabzonspor president Muharrem Usta said: “We are in talks with Moussa Sissoko.

“He is a very important player, Tottenham paid £35 million for him.

“He didn’t live up to expectations last season but this can happen in football.

“We want to loan him and get his career back on track.

“Obviously Tottenham do not want to give up on a player they paid that kind of money for but we will see.”

At 27, Sissoko still has time to turn his career around and potentially prove his worth, but he has not been able to fit in with Tottenham's fast-paced style thus far.

Chances are his future lies away from White Hart Lane permanently, but with the 2018 World Cup at the end of next season, the wide-man needs to keep himself in the reckoning for Didier Deschamps' troops.

Spurs are yet to make any major signings this summer and need to stay strong if they wish to truly take the next step and challenge for the Premier League title.
