Given his versatility and elite athleticism, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall is an extremely difficult player to guard.Wall is also coming off the best season of his seven-year NBA career. Averaging 23.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 10.7 assists per contest, the All-Star led the Wizards to a 49-33 record and eventually guided the team to an appearance in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they fell to the Boston Celtics.Ranking 10th in the Association with a 30.6 percent Usage Rate, Wall was trusted to be the catalyst of Washington’s powerful offense, and for the most part, he exceeded expectations. He also was the main reason why the Wizards ranked 4th in the NBA with 16.1 fastbreak points per game. Therefore, it takes not only a technically-skilled defender to check Wall, but also an elite, conditioned athlete.Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype asked Wall which NBA player defends him best. Here’s how he answered the question:

Wall’s choice make a lot of sense. Not only is Avery Bradley regarded as perhaps the best on-ball perimeter defender in the NBA, but when Wall played against the Celtics last season, he didn’t enjoy as much success as when he took on the rest of the league.

In four regular-season games against Boston, Wall averaged 17.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 35.3 minutes. Those are still solid overall numbers, but life was difficult for the point guard as he was held to just 37.3 percent shooting overall, including an abysmal 15.4 percent shooting from three-point range. Taking 16.8 field goal attempts per game, Wall was forced into taking a number of low-percentage shots.

In the seven-game playoff series, Wall put up 25.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 10.3 assists in 39.1 minutes per game, but shot just 39.8 percent overall and 28.6 percent from beyond the arc. To put that into context, in Wall's opening-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, he shot 52.5 percent overall and 47.4 percent from three.

Therefore, Bradley’s direct impact was noticeable.

After Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semis, Isaiah Thomas made the following claim about his teammate Bradley:

“Avery’s the best on-the-ball defender in the NBA — hands down,” Thomas told reporters. “A guy like John Wall you’re not gonna stop.He does a hell of a job on him. He makes it tough. Nothing’s easy. And that’s what Avery Bradley does, each and every night.”

Overall, Bradley’s team has been victorious in 11 of the 17 regular-season battles between him and Wall and has also won their best-of-seven playoff matchup, which is the only time the two met in the postseason so far.

This summer, Bradley was traded to the Detroit Pistons in order to clear cap space for the Celtics to sign coveted free agent Gordon Hayward. Therefore, the setting will be much different for when the two players square off, as the Wizards and Celtics developed a heated rivalry last season, but Bradley will likely continue to be a nuisance for Wall and every other guard that he’s tasked with defending all season long.
