Neymar has been unveiled by Paris Saint-Germain and could make his debut on Saturday following his £200 million move from Barcelona. The Brazilian forward, who will earn an absurd £782,000 a week before tax at the Parc des Princes, becomes the most expensive footballer of all time, smashing the previous record held by Manchester United’s Paul Pogba. In his first press conference, Neymar insisted his extraordinary price tag is “not a burden” and dismissed claims that his move to the French capital was motivated by money."What I say to these people is they don't know anything about my personal life, I was never motivated by money,” he was quoted as saying by BBC Sport."If I was following the money, I would be somewhere else, with other clubs in other countries. I'm really sad that people still think that way and I'm glad that PSG believe in me."

Neymar: I've done nothing wrong

Some perturbed Barça fans have compared Neymar to Luis Figo, who infamously left the Camp Nou for Real Madrid back in 2000, but PSG’s new No. 10 believes he has nothing to apologise for.

"I have done nothing bad. I am sad about the fact that the fans think that,” he added.

"You are not obligated to remain at a club, if you wish to leave then the player has that right."

There are many people - and not just football fans - who feel the eye-watering amounts of money involved in this deal is obscene.

Surely no footballer can be worth £200 million? With so many people in the world struggling to make ends meet, it just doesn’t seem right.

Michael Owen has caused a stir with his Neymar tweet

Michael Owen, the former Real Madrid and England striker who won the Ballon d’Or back in 2001, agrees that it’s a ridiculous amount of money for one player. And not even the world’s best player.

However, in a tweet which has caused something of a stir, Owen also feels £200 million is probably about right for Neymar based on this summer’s inflated transfer fees.

“Not sure what to make of the Neymar deal,” he wrote. “Ridiculous amount of money but looking at other recent inflated transfers he's probably worth it!”

Reaction to Owen's tweet

Here’s how Twitter has reacted to Owen’s tweet…

Why Owen might have a point

But does Owen have a point?

Kyle Walker joined Manchester City for £50 million earlier this summer. Is Neymar four times as good as the English right-back? Yes.

Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United for £75 million, Alvaro Morata went to Chelsea for around £60 million, while Gylfi Sigurdsson is expected to sign for Everton in a deal worth around £50 million.

As one of the world’s top five players, perhaps £200 million for Neymar is not so ridiculous after all.
