In November 2016, the football world was shocked when a plane carrying 77 people including Chapecoense players crashed.

The team, club staff and journalists were travelling from Brazil to Colombia for the first leg of the 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals.

Chapecoense were scheduled to play Atletico Nacional in their first final appearance before the team's plane tragically crashed on its approach to Medellin, Colombia.

Seventy-one of the 77 people on board died leaving only six survivors. Three first team players, left-back Alan Ruschel, backup goalkeeper Jakson Follmann and center-back Neto were amongst the survivors.

Following the news, clubs, players and managers came together to support the Brazilian side, paying respects and raising money for the devastated club.

Atletico Nacional requested to award the Copa Sudamericana to their opponents, while free signings and loan players joined from other clubs.

After being awarded the trophy, Chapecoense qualified for the 2017 Copa Libertadores, which will be their first appearance in that tournament.

It's South America's premier competition and the club could face the likes of Argentina's River Plate, or fellow Brazilian teams Sao Paulo and Santos.

With a shot at the continents top tournament, Chapecoense will have to prepare themselves very well to avoid being beaten on the big stage.

On Monday night, they faced a team that will offer them the perfect intense preparation. Barcelona.

The Spanish giants organised a tribute game for the South American side, inviting them to come to play at the Nou Camp.

Playing at the home of one of the best teams on the planet is a once is a lifetime chance for most of the visiting players.

But their hosts didn't hold back. They raced into a 4-0 lead within an hour. Gerard Deulofeu opened the scoring as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez also found the net.

The pick of the goals though came from Sergio Busquets. He took the ball five yards out from the area, before smashing it into the top corner.

Check it out below.

Despite the scoreline, the Chapecoense players will never forget their evening in front of a bumper crowd at the Nou Camp.
