WWE has plans to do yet another Superstar Shakeup soon.

WWE doing drafts is nothing new. The reason for them is due to it providing new brand competition and to refresh its rosters. The draft was first used during the brand extension of 2002, though it was officially incepted and used in 2004.

For those who might not know, the inception of the process has been referred to as the WWE draft lottery (2004–05) and later simplified to the "draft" (2007–2011). In 2005, the draft took place during the month of June while it was held in April between 2009 and 2011.

After 2011, WWE dropped the whole idea and terminated the brand split and promotion of interbrand competition from 2011 to 2016.

Due to having a lack of success in growing the WWE Universe, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and other officials decided to change things up. In May of last year, it was announced that the draft would be returning.

It worked out well due to SmackDown moving to Tuesdays and to a live broadcast starting July 19. Last year’s Draft was held in July on SmackDown Live, which was also the first time that the draft took place on SmackDown.

Earlier this year, the company decided to do a mini-draft that was labeled the Superstar Shakeup. Instead of a traditional draft, the company decided to have the general managers of Raw and SmackDown trade and make deals between their respective talent.

It’s been reported that the company is talking about possibly doing another Superstar Shakeup this year. According to PWInsider, there is talk about doing at least two shakeup per year instead of just one major WWE Draft. It’s expected that the next shakeup will probably take place within the first couple of weeks of September.

As seen with the most recent Superstar Shakeup, the SmackDown Live brand has really taken a hit with star power. Several top talents such as Intercontinental Champion The Miz, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, and Alexa Bliss were traded from SmackDown to Raw. Time will tell how the next Superstar Shakeup will play out.
