Paris Saint-Germain claimed all the headlines with the world-record transfer of Brazilian Neymar, although it could have been an Arsenal player who made a big money move this summer.Brazilian Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona for a colossal £200 million and was unveiled on Saturday as the French side kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign.A host of other players have been rumoured with a move to the French capital, in particular, Arsenal’s most-prized asset.Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, who scored 24 goals in 38 Premier League games last season, was a key target for the French giants in the run up to Neymar putting pen to paper, according to The Telegraph.Neymar, Sanchez and Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe were the front three runners on PSG’s hit-list as they looked to bolster their attacking line. But, following the confirmation of Neymar, PSG have put an end to their interest in Sanchez. The Telegraph believe PSG had been close to making a move, and were confident of succeeding, for Sanchez before they agreed on the world record deal for Neymar.

Sanchez is still wanted by Manchester City, although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has always insisted that players would not be sold.

Sanchez’s wage demands could also prove a potential stumbling block with The Telegraph reporting that Bayern Munich have backed off because of his wage demands.

Although both City and Bayern remain in the running, it looks increasingly likely that both clubs will be prepared to wait until next summer when Sanchez will be available on a ‘free’.

Keeping the Chilean forward will be a huge boost for Arsenal fans, as Wenger looks to hit the ground running and build momentum for a Premier League title push.
