Jahlil Okafor’s rookie and sophomore seasons in the NBA were very different. After being taken third overall in the 2015 Draft, the former Duke University standout starred for the rebuilding Philadelphia 76ers in his rookie campaign, posting 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks over 30.0 minutes per contest. He made 48 starts in 53 games played overall. However, last year, Okafor fell out of the good graces of Sixers head coach Brett Brown, who couldn’t find a major role for him alongside Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, both of whom received a large amount of run. As a result, Okafor started in just 33 of 50 games and saw his numbers fall across the board, averaging 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.0 block over just 22.7 minutes per contest.*LIVE COVERAGE*GIVEMESPORT will broadcast live coverage of the US PGA Championship on Facebook from 10-13 August. Live coverage starts Thursday 10 August, 18:00-00:15 HEREDespite logging fewer minutes, being completely benched at times and seeing his role decreased after on and off-court issues, Okafor seems to have embraced the fact that he’s still in Philly. Here’s footage of the big man telling reporters that while he has heard trade rumors and might be better off somewhere else, he’s committed to getting back on track as a member of the Sixers, where he “couldn’t be happier”:

"I have, I hear trade rumors and stuff like that, realizing that having a new scenario, think it might be better than what it is now. When it comes to the NBA, this is all I know is wearing a Sixers uniform. And the city's been great to me, the coaches have been great to me, and my teammates have been great. So I couldn't be happier,” he said in the video above.

Whether or not Okafor is a part of the rotation, there’s a lot to be excited about for the upcoming season in Philadelphia. Not only will last year’s No. 1 pick Ben Simmons be ready to begin his career after sitting out all of last year with an injury, but 2017 No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz and free agent signee J.J. Redick will be featured with core that includes Embiid, Saric and Robert Covington in addition to youngsters Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, Justin Anderson and rookie Furkan Korkmaz.

Since Okafor will likely have to compete for playing time off the bench against Richaun Holmes and veteran Amir Johnson, he presumably will be able to make an impact on the second unit if he establishes himself as a reliable option to the coaching staff.
