In just over two week’s time, the eagerly anticipated fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will take place at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

On paper, the upcoming encounter is a complete mismatch. Mayweather first took to the boxing ring on a professional level back in 1996 and has fought 49 times since, winning each and every one of them.

However, McGregor has no professional boxing experience under his belt.

Although everybody loves a giant killing, it seems one man is worried what might happen if McGregor finds himself on the right side of the result.

That man is four-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch.

Speaking to the Mail Online, the 40-year-old is worried that McGregor could ‘make a mockery of boxing’ if he is to beat Mayweather.

“If Conor McGregor was to beat Mayweather, it would almost make a mockery of boxing.

“We are going to come in for a lot of stick and criticism from mixed martial artists... that in itself would really wind me up and I don't think it would do our sport any good.”

Froch, who hung up his gloves in 2014, also claimed that Mayweather’s two-year absence could prove to be costly.

“When you have been out of the ring for two years, you don't feel like a fighter anymore, you become a bit soft and civilised,” he added.

“You don't quite know what we're going to get from Mayweather... the fact that he's coming from two years out almost makes this competitive from the point of view where Mayweather is not going to be the Mayweather we're used to.”

Despite his concerns, Froch is still adamant that Mayweather will come out on top.

“Let's be honest, Floyd Mayweather is 49 fights unbeaten, is there anything he has not seen? Is there anything McGregor is going to bring that would really worry him?

“I think McGregor is going to bring some awkward moves, he'll be a bit disjointed and tricky at times and he's obviously very confident.

“But I don't know if he's going to have anything that's going to surprise Mayweather, especially if Mayweather adopts that safety-first style.”
