Chris Benoit is one of the most controversial figures in professional wrestling history, and it just so happens that one former WWE Champ took issue with putting "The Crippler" over.

Benoit, a man who had been wrestling since the year 1985, had wrestled all over the world for promotions such as Stampede Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), and of course, the WWE. In WWE, Benoit was extremely successful, winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship once, the United States Championship three times, as well as being a four time Intercontinental Champion. It was the events that transpired in June of 2007 that would shape his legacy forever.

After having his Georgia home searched by police on a wellness check, as many of Benoit's friends had received strange text messages from him that day, the bodies of Benoit, his wife Nancy, and his seven-year-old son Daniel were found. Following further investigation, it was determined that Benoit murdered his wife and son before taking his own life. He has essentially been blacklisted from WWE history ever since.

Former WCW executive Kevin Sullivan recently did an interview with David Penzer to discuss his time with the promotion before its untimely end, including his working relationship with Benoit. Sullivan revealed that there was one instance where former WWE Champion Sid Vicious was hesitant to put over Benoit clean, who was significantly smaller than him (quotes via Wrestling Inc.):

"David, you know this story. I walked into a room with Sid Vicious, 6' 9", with a babyface that was 5' 8" at best and asked him to put Chris Benoit over clean. (Sid) b---hed and moaned and said, 'why am I putting a midget over'? Sid said, 'What is wrong with you?' Sometimes it not as easy as it sounds."

Sullivan also took credit for one of the greatest characters the professional wrestling industry has ever seen - Goldberg:

"I beat Bill Goldberg on Nitro with Steve McMichael when he wore the Falcons Jacket and the red tights and red boots. After that I kept (Goldberg) off TV for eight weeks, shaved his head, gave him the Mike Tyson short boots, the black tights breathing fire like a dragon, and put him on the winning streak!"
