Matt Mitrione calls out Brock Lesnar

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is one of the fiercest competitor the sport has ever seen, but many longtime mixed martial artists (MMA) take exception to that claim – including former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione.

Lesnar may have gotten his big break into mainstream fame during his time with the WWE, but it was his tenure with the UFC that solidified himself as one of the baddest men on the planet. Following a successful debut with the Hero’s promotion in 2007, Lesnar was signed on by the UFC and booked in a one-on-one contest with former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Lesnar dominated the bout for the opening minutes, however, his lack of experience led to him getting caught in a submission hold, forcing him to tap out.

After picking himself up and racking up two straight wins, which included winning the UFC heavyweight title from Randy Couture, Lesnar got his opportunity to avenge his loss to Mir as he main evented the biggest card in the company’s history, UFC 100, against the submission specialist to unify their titles (as Mir was the interim heavyweight champ). Lesnar, learning from his mistakes the first time around, completely dominated Mir from bell to bell, finishing the bout via second round knockout with some vicious ground-and-pound.

Lesnar would go on to defend his title once more before losing it to a young Cain Velasquez, and subsequently making the decision to retire after a first round knockout loss to Alistair Overeem in December of 2011.

“The Beast” returned to dominate the WWE world soon after, however, in the midst of his WWE deal Lesnar was allowed to make a return to MMA competition for the UFC’s 200 card where he took on Mark Hunt. Lesnar won the bout via unanimous decision, however, after his failed results from a United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) drug test returned, he was banned from the sport for a year.

With his suspension due to finish up in a few months, much talk has begun to arise of a potential superfight between Lesnar and fellow freakish athletic specimen, as well as UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. Now, however, it appears as though former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione wants to get in on that sweepstakes, claiming that he’d ‘beat the breaks off’ Lesnar if they met in the Octagon (quotes via MMA Mania):

“I would beat the f*cking breaks off Brock Lesnar,” Mitrione said. “There is no question about this whatsoever. He would never fight me…never. He would fight Jon Jones because he would think he can take Jon Jones down. He would never fight me. I’ve been asking to fight Brock Lesnar since the day I went on The Ultimate Fighter.

“If you think that dude is an athlete go suck a d*ck. That dude is not an athlete. He’s a giant body.”
