The Detroit Pistons will be hoping that a new backcourt partnership between Reggie Jackson and Avery Bradley can help them improve on their disappointing season last year.

Stan Van Gundy's men followed up a promising campaign in 2016 by failing to make the playoffs.

All-Star Andre Drummond recently accepted responsibility for the team's failings as his performances dipped drastically, but an early season injury to Reggie Jackson also played a huge part.

After returning from the injury, Jackson struggled to get into any sort of rhythm throughout the campaign and endured a frustrating year.

The point guard is looking to get back to his best next season and believes the arrival of Bradley will help his game and is looking forward to what they can do together.

"We're going to try to tear up the league," Jackson said. "He's been one tough gun to play against and now I look forward to playing with him.

"I expect him to hold me accountable. Try to get the best out of him and I expect him to try to get the best out of me. Especially being around the same age, it's going to be fun to lead this team and continue to battle and try to get better every day in practice and (in games)."

Bradley was acquired by the Pistons in a trade with the Boston Celtics that saw Marcus Morris go in the opposite direction.

The shooting guard has a reputation as one of the best defenders in the league and having gone up against him for so many years, Jackson is happy to have him in his corner.

"He comes out and wants to be great defensively and has such a respect for the game that he doesn't let you breathe," Jackson said. "In practice, I'm sure we're going to have some good battles. It's going to be fun to battle with him. He just competes. He's not scared of anybody. He's going to leave everything on the court. Detroit, I think we should be happy."

As well as Morris, Detroit lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope this summer as the franchise decided not to offer him the max contract he wanted.

But the addition of Bradley can be seen as an upgrade at the two spot due to his ball handling abilities and experience of competing at a high level.

With a number of high-profile players departing the Eastern Conference recently, there could be several playoff positions up for grabs and the Pistons should certainly be in the mix.
