Of the many new All-Star combinations that were built this offseason, NBA fans might be most excited to watch Russell Westbrook and Paul George team up for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the fall.According to ESPN’s Royce Young, the two, along with a few teammates, have already started working on their on-court chemistry. On Monday in Los Angeles, Westbrook and George met up for their first workout together on UCLA’s campus and Thunder teammates Jerami Grant, Kyle Singler, Semaj Criston and Doug McDermott also joined them.Young reported that this was the second workout that Westbrook organized this summer, but George was unable to attend due to a pre-planned European vacation. The ESPN reporter also pointed out that most of Oklahoma City’s front office and coaching staff was in Los Angeles on Sunday to attend George’s celebrity fishing tournament. Westbrook also attended to provide support for his new co-star.

George was famously traded to the Thunder for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis in July, and immediately after, he conveyed his enthusiasm and optimism to reporters.

"I thought I was going to, like, four or five other teams that were pretty active in the trade. When I found out it was OKC I was quite surprised, but at the same time I was happy about the trade," George said.

"I was thrilled, I was looking forward to it. All I wanted was a chance and an opportunity to play for something special and ultimately win a championship and right off the back I think I get that here, playing alongside Russ. We've had a lot of time to talk. Right after the trade I called him that night and we kind of talked and went over the excitement of playing alongside one another. Yesterday we got a good time, we had a lot of time to talk,” PG13 revealed.

It’s more than just basketball for George, who will be compared to Kevin Durant and impact that he had on the club alongside Westbrook. ”It wasn't even about basketball. Just vibing together and getting to know one another and, I think, creating a friendship there," George explained.

At the time of the trade, George simply laid out the role he’s expecting to play on the Thunder.

"For myself, just running the floor, creating space for him to operate. He's so hard to stay in front of, he's going to attract double teams night in and night out, almost every possession. So I think for myself it will be easy to space the floor and be a knock-down shooter for him," George said. "And I think the opposite. I demand double teams and [I am] a guy teams scout for and try to prep for.”

While there will most likely be a bit of a learning curve, it seems as though both stars share a mutual respect, which will undoubtedly make a positive impact as the season rolls along. As Westbrook and the Thunder know, loyalty can change quickly, but George is committed to putting his best foot forward in the 2017-2018 campaign.
