Bruce Buffer, the famous UFC announcer, has placed a couple of controversial bets on the upcoming super fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

Rather than going for the safe bet of thinking Mayweather will come away with the victory, Buffer thinks McGregor will come out on top.

“I made these bets a while ago. I remember it came down from 20/1 to like 11/1. I got Conor McGregor at 7.5/1 (to win) and now he’s at 4.5/1,” he said on his 'It's Time' podcast.

“I made a bet that he would knock Mayweather down at some point in the fight. That’s 5/1 – which is now 3.5/1.

"I bet that he would knock Mayweather out in the third, fourth, or fifth round – which is 2200/1 I got. That’s a lot. If he’s going to knock him out I think it will happen in the first six rounds.

With Dana White, the UFC president, releasing tapes of McGregor's sparring sessions, the odds of him winning have been slashed.

There is no doubt Mayweather will take McGregor extremely seriously ahead of this incredible history making fight.

Many who favour McGregor like Buffer will point out to doubters that McGregor is only 28 while his counterpart Mayweather is 41, and is far less athletic.

Furthermore, Mayweather has accepted a reduction in glove size which will certainly aid McGregor.

McGregor himself has predicted a knockout inside four rounds, which is certainly very optimistic considering Mayweather is 49-0 and one of the greatest technicians in boxing history.

Yet, only time will tell whether the McGregor doubters will be proven wrong, will people who believe in McGregor such as Buffer be correct, or will Mayweather's skill and technique prove too much for the UFC star.
