Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll is hoping to keep on-loan striker Billy Sharp for the rest of the campaign but admits Rovers cannot afford him on a permanent basis.
Sharp has been on fire since joining Rovers on a season-long loan and scored his fourth goal in five games at the weekend. Parent club Sheffield United have the option to recall him in January and could decide to do so if another club puts in the right offer.
"Billy was a big-money signing so Sheffield United are not going to let him go cheaply," O'Driscoll told the Sheffield Star.
"We'd love to keep him for the season but if that's not the case then at least his loan period has helped everyone concerned.
"It will have helped Billy get his career back on track; it will have helped Sheffield United and he's helped us, so we can't complain."
