We have a big fight set for UFC 216.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is too busy with his training for his upcoming boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather later this month in Las Vegas, Nevada. With McGregor’s future in MMA up the air due to the massive payday that he will get for taking this fight, a second UFC lightweight champion is coming.

UFC President Dana White has confirmed that an interim title fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee has been booked for UFC 216. He made the bout official when he told reporters on Tuesday.

As of this writing, White is not sure if the bout between Ferguson and Lee will headline this upcoming PPV (pay-per-view) event. The promotion will attempt to book either a second championship bout or another big fight for the card as the UFC historically likes to have two main event worthy fights on a PPV card in case one of the bouts fall out.

Ferguson gets his second chance to win an interim UFC title. If you recall, he was supposed to fight undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov for the belt at UFC 209 before Nurmagomedov was hospitalized after a bad weight-cut.

Back in July, White went on record by saying that he wanted to book them against each other a fourth time. He also talked about the fact that he would consider Ferguson against red-hot prospect Justin Gaethje.

This past week, Nurmagomedov sparred on Twitter with Ferguson, writing, “I’m waiting for you in New York … just take this fight, everybody waiting your decision.” Ferguson shot back, “Your (manager Ali Abdelaziz) Informed @ufc U Are Not Well Enough To Fight Me At MSG, Turned Down The Fight On Your Behalf. Don’t Fool Your Fans.” Nurmagomedov responded, “You don’t need my manager, I’m the one who fights with you. Take the fight or tell fans that you looking for easy way.”

UFC 216 is set to take place on October 7th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The preliminary card will air on the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, as well as FOX Sports 1. The main card will be broadcasted on PPV. The co-main event for the upcoming show has yet to be officially announced. Here is the updated lineup:
