WWE SummerSlam is officially in the books and while it wasn't to everybody's taste, it did throw up a couple of moments that surprised us.As well as having a total of five title changes on the show, SummerSlam also saw the return of one WWE Hall of Famer in the strangest and weirdest of circumstances, but the crowd absolutely loved it nevertheless. If you watch enough WWE product, you'll know they have their sponsorship partnership with KFC, and in their adverts, Colonel Sanders is an actual wrestler. In their latest commercial, the WWE is on the hunt for a new superstar to play the Colonel.

In the advert, Dolph Ziggler, Enzo Amore, Big Show, Mojo Rawley, R-Truth, Goldust, and Becky Lynch all wrestle one another during Colonel auditions, but it's finally revealed that the new Colonel Sanders is none of them.

Inside the Barclays Center, it is revealed that Shawn Michaels is the new Colonel Sanders, but according to Cageside Seats, he wasn't the first Hall of Famer which WWE had in mind to play the role.

Cageside Seats has reported that the KFC spot with Shawn Michaels from SummerSlam was originally intended for Ric Flair, but obviously, due to his ongoing hospitalization and health issues, he wasn't able to perform in the role.

Flair has reportedly been in the hospital since August 12 due to multiple organ problems and was placed in a medically-induced coma to have colon surgery. Reports have stated he has awoken from his coma, but there is still a long road to recovery and he's not out of the woods yet.

Kudos to HBK for stepping up in a time of need for both WWE and Flair by filling in the role. The two share a rich history together and The Nature Boy will definitely be appreciative for what Michaels has done.

Michaels was part of Flair's last ever match as a WWE superstar, as he retired The Nature Boy after defeating him in a match at WrestleMania XXIV in 2008, which was widely voted as Match of the Year during that year.
