Why was Mourinho at the Etihad?

So, why was Mourinho at the Etihad Stadium? The most logical explanation is he was getting in some early preparation for when Everton visit Old Trafford on September 17.

But Man United supporters have come up with a more humorous reason for why the Portuguese boss was in attendance last night.

They took to Twitter to joke that Mourinho was scouting a certain Wayne Rooney.

Rooney was buzzing to score at the Etihad

The Man United boss will have been pleased with what he saw from the 31-year-old, who showed he still has an eye for goal.

Rooney expressed his delight after scoring his 200th Premier League goal at a stadium in which he has some great memories, including that overhead kick in 2011.

When asked how it felt to score at the Etihad, he said, per Sky Sports: "What, again?

"Of course, it was nice obviously with my history with Manchester United. I've scored a few times here.

"To do it today in such an important game for us, so early in the season, we've got tough games coming up, it was a sweet moment and I am sure the red half of Manchester will have enjoyed that one as well."

Everton play Chelsea next

Everton’s next Premier League match is against Chelsea on Sunday.

Man United fans would love nothing more than for Rooney to cause some more damage to their title rivals.
