The future of Kyrie Irving in the NBA has been decided for the time being, as earlier this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers ended weeks of speculation when they traded away the 25-year-old to the Boston Celtics. For the point guard, the Cavaliers received Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the rights to the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round draft pick in exchange, but they originally wanted to trade Irving to another destination for another player.Reports had emerged that Cleveland was trying to trade Kyrie Irving to the Golden State Warriors for another mega-trade that would have left the NBA stunned to its core. They wanted to swap Irving for Klay Thompson.Sure enough, and as most people would have expected, the Warriors declined this trade and stopped it from happening, but it has left many to ponder what might have been if it did happen. As expected, reporters asked the Golden State star on Wednesday for his thoughts about being linked with a trade to the team he and the Warriors defeated in the NBA Finals earlier in the year.According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Thompson said: "Yeah, it's really cool. It shows the Warriors believe in me and it shows these teams want me to be a part of their success so I appreciate it."I've been in trade rumors forever. Everybody has. Except for maybe LeBron James, and Steph (Curry). Even Steph, early in his career. It's all just part of the biz and it is flattering, and I do appreciate it."

Considering the super team of Thompson, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green that the Warriors have managed to put together over the past couple of seasons, and the fact they've defeated the Cavaliers in two of the last three NBA Finals, he isn't going to be leaving that setup anytime soon.

However, after averaging 22.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists for the Warriors in 2016-17, he would have been quite the acquisition for Cleveland if they were able to pull this mega-trade off.
